so i've been using next-auth for google logins and it works great

but i want to use my own login - password system now. i have a api endpoint that determines the authentication of someone from the login and password data passed into that api. how do i set up a login system such that there will be a session or state thats consistent throughout my website, similar to how nextauth did it?
