What turbopack exactly do in next js?

i was creating a next app yesterday and just noticed that it asking that is i want turbo pack or not. i search online but not getting exactly thing what turbopack will exactly do in my app

it's another compiler of nextjs. The default is webpack and you have the option to switch to turbopack to speed up your local develeopement
