How Much Should I Rely on ChatGPT for Web Development Projects?

I have a paid ChatGPT subscription that allows me to create custom models for the web projects I build for clients. I'm familiar with the frameworks I use, and I recently completed a project quickly and successfully by relying heavily on ChatGPT. However, I noticed that this made me somewhat dependent on it, and now I find it difficult to implement even basic functionalities without asking ChatGPT for help. Is it advisable to continue using ChatGPT so extensively, or should I limit its use to ensure I maintain my own development skills?

I think you should limit your usage. generally my happy balance has been using chatgpt to do things I don't want to do (e.g. putting a bunch of data into an array or smth), but still trying to make sure that I'm the one creating new pages, writing functions, etc.
tl;dr if you don't know how to do it yourself, don't get chatgpt to do it for you
I am going to echo what Lukas said, you should rely on it for the mundane. ie: I need a function to iterate through some data and do X to it, I know I can write that code with next to zero challenges but chatgpt will also get me there much quicker. I think you should use it as a tool, I have a screw driver but a drill will make it quicker, not because I cant use the screw driver just because itll be quicker.

That's exactly what I do with chat gpt.
interesting
and even with that limited usage, you're still having trouble
Essentially your saying
you dont wanna do anything 😂 If your doing what lukas suggested, he uses it for the mundane tasks and stuff he doesnt feel like doing. lolThats how I read that response

btw @Lukas your status text is really funny! 😆

I have a friend who isn’t as experienced with frontend frameworks as I am but managed to land and complete several big projects using ChatGPT Plus a lot. For example, he learned Vue.js in a week to complete a project he had never worked with before.
It seems like a smart way to get things done and can lead to more clients and bigger jobs in less time.
I sometimes feel guilty about not using GPT . At the same time, I want the things I build to reflect my own skills.

Right it really depends on how its used, the second someone asks for something truly complex, chatGPT is not going to cut it. A simple front end with a simple backend is easy for chatgpt the second you get into full stack, complex database interactions complex user interactions, its going to faulter.

I used the plus with custom model for one project and i can say it did 80 % of the work for me , i know it can not done the job for you in one piece but it can do most of the work and it works very well even that you don't understand what it did , and i thing my friend just did that way
He did a multi tenant project with separate databases using laravel and vue that designed to have lots of client (doctors) , and i bet he don't know 70% of the code he wrote
Again, if you dont understand what it did, you shouldnt use the code. Its asking for trouble in the long term. Just my opinion.

But at the end i tested it and it works very well
I no longer use it , because i dont want my skills to be GPT prompts
It sounds like your asking someone to convince you, I wont do that, I just know that in a real environment if you dont know the code that your writing it would be very evident. It works for the pump and dump cases like creating something for someone, but long term engagements, it wont work.
my 2 cents: I'm honestly quite surprised how far ChatGPT got you, my experience with any LLMs has been horrible, especially for solving issues that I have. It seemed to always derail from the actual problem and think of something else that's entirely irrelevant. I don't have a ChatGPT subscription, but I did try Mistral Large and Gemini which I believe is close enough; and they either can't understand the actual problem, making stuff up, or I really am just terrible at writing prompts. I never trust any LLMs to do any of my work--except perhaps the mundane ones like Jboncz has mentioned.

I don't say it can do whatever you want , but it can do so much if you use it perfectly
As I said before I have decided not to use it anymore, except for small things or for learning
