Does Nextjs dev env crash a lot?

I've noticed while building my app that a lot of time it will just randomly stop running in intellij. Typically when it does randomly crash it is right after I clicked to rebuild and then the first time I try to refresh the page. There's no errors showing in the logs etc..

What’s IntelliJ?
I’ve never had issues with build just stopping. Are you trying to build while running in dev mode?

IntelliJ is an IDE

It is running in dev mode... sorry I forgot that Next needs to actually build before deploying so poor use of that word.

You might want to use „webstorm“ for website stuff. It’s like IntelliJ also from Jetbrains and brings all the good stuff in the web development.

If you not already have: when you create a open source project (5 commits in 3 of 12 months) you will get all jetbrains products for free
Did I just see an ULPT right there?

Anyway @OP: the dev mode uses a lot of resource so if you run out of memory space, it could crash
That said if your machine is not too low in terms of resources, it shouldn’t crash that often. It does crash sometimes but very few and far between and the crashes can’t be reliably reproduced

Others paying 132 $/year for the same. Creating any open source project with 5 commits can be done in like 30 minutes

This is offtopic now, but IntelliJ includes all the features of WebStorm already. Also cheating your way into a free license is unethical and the free license people get offered do not allow the use for commercial projects. Doing so is a breach of the ToS.
In any case, OP seems to be using IJ already so there is no need to discuss any of this.

It's definitely not a resource problem... it happens on start up sometimes after the computers been restarted(also the machine has pretty decent specs)

I don't mind paying $132 a year for a good product... IntelliJ is great. As mentioned w/ ultimate you can do everything webstorm offers and more
Only downside is new features technically come to webstorm before intellij ultimate but that's a non issue to me

Also to go off the resource issue a lot of the time I have my java app running at the same time and that has never once crashed on me
then i don't know, sorry. the dev server rarely crashes for my case (14.2.*, macbook)

it needs many gigs of RAM though (could be 4GB!) so maybe it takes more resources than you might think.
