Anchor tag is not working for external links

In my project I am using anchor tag 
<a href="www.google.com" rel="noopener noreferrer">Google</a>
. But instead of redirecting to external link, its redirecting to internal one. For example, its reaching 
localhost:3000/www.google.com


Someone help me on this regard. Where could I have gone wrong?

try adding https:// to start
(if you somehow want to use the protocol user accessed your site with use just // - but you shouldnt ever use this as everyone has https these days)
