import { MagnifyingGlassIcon } from '@heroicons/react/24/outline';
import { useSearchParams, usePathname, useRouter } from 'next/navigation';

export default function Search({ placeholder }: { placeholder: string }) {
  const searchParams = useSearchParams();
  const pathname = usePathname();
  const { replace } = useRouter();

  function handleSearch(term: string) {
    const params = new URLSearchParams(searchParams);

    if (term) {
      params.set('query', term);
    } else {
      params.delete('query');
    }
    replace(`<localhost:3000 />?${params.toString()}`);
  }

  return (

If you are sure that import usePathname from next/navigation, what's your nextjs version?
You issue seems because of version problem

@American Crocodile I am following tutorial as it is and im getting this error...
usePathname is a hook so may only be called inside a component or in another hook. handleSearch is not a hook or a component, so this violates the rule of hook causing the error here.
