Issue with Static Site Generation in Next 13

We are building a corporate marketing web site and are using NextJS 13/React.

The contents of the OUT folder contain what I am supposing is a static build of the web site.

It works when I copy it to IIS and browse to the site.

But if I look at the html files or do a view page source, I don't see what I am expecting to see. How do you identify a static site compared to a client generated site?

The 'static' site built by NextJS V13 in the out folder has files which just have a stack of files that look like a bunch of these: <script src="/_next/static/chunks/8556-60d57473b71a877a.js" defer=""> and contains no actual text from the web page.

I was expecting to see the content.

I have been developing web sites for years (using things like Dreamweaver or manually typed HTML) so our web sties have always been mostly HTML/CSS with JavaScript only for the menus and other interactions.

Because of what I am seeing with NextJS, I am uneasy assuming that Google and Bing are going to be happy with a site which has HTML files which load the content in chunks from .js files

I have a different test Next project and when I look at index.html in th eout folder, I an see most of the next on the web page. It is not hidded inside a js chunk file.

How do I track down why the marketing site is compressing it so well? How do I get it to create/build a static site where most of the output looks like regular html?

Thanks.
