New layout causes component to be called twice

Visiting app/courses/145/154, and you will see the console log being logged twice. This only happens because of the new layout (I'm assuming).
Is this a bug or am I doing something wrong? I'm using a similar routing style to call a database, and the call is being done twice which breaks some stuff, so I need to fix this somehow.
